Memorial Bridges Loop
Project Overview

The Cleveland Memorial Bridges Loop will create a separated path for people walking, running, and biking on Huron Road and Ontario Avenue. The project will connect the separated bike lane and sidewalk on the Detroit-Superior Bridge to the existing shared-use path near and on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge.
Why Huron and Ontario?
Over 83% of drivers are traveling over the 25 MPH speed limit on Huron. This project will help address this and other traffic safety concerns, while supporting our Vision Zero commitment to end crashes that result in fatal and serious injuries. Between 2021 and 2025, 2 people were killed and 2 people were seriously injured in crashes on Huron and Ontario between Superior Avenue and Carnegie Avenue. There were 132 crashes on these streets during that time period.
Huron and Ontario are a rare gap in our pedestrian network. This route is often used by Cleveland running groups as part of a 3-mile loop around both bridges, despite the existing sidewalk gap. This is also a key connection in our growing bike network. The project will connect the separated bike lane and sidewalk on the Detroit-Superior Bridge to the existing shared-use path on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge. It will also connect to the existing bike lane on Huron to the east of Ontario. You can learn more about our bikeway vision network on our Cleveland Moves webpage.
