City of Cleveland Extends Cooling Center Operations in Anticipation of High Temperatures, Reminds Residents of Heat Safety

June 24, 2025 — Cleveland — The City of Cleveland Department of Public Works will extend the hours of several recreation centers to serve as cooling centers for Cleveland residents who are seeking shelter from the warm temperatures expected in the coming days. Residents are reminded of extreme heat safety tips (attached). Please check on your neighbors and be mindful of the health of pets as temperatures increase.

Collinwood Recreation Center – 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
Frederick Douglass – 15401 Miles Ave.
Earle B. Turner – 11300 Miles Ave.
Zelma W. George – 3155 Martin L. King Blvd.
Gunning Park – 16700 Puritas Ave.
Halloran – 3550 W. 117th
Hamilton – 13200 Kinsman Ave.
Stella Walsh – 7345 Broadway Ave.
Michael Zone – 6301 Lorain Ave.

Each site will have comfort areas for residents and filtered water fountains.

  • All playground programs and youth outdoor programs are suspended today.
  • All available indoor pools will be open on Tuesday, June 24, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Admission to all city pools and access to the full range of the City’s Summer Programming are completely free. Residents are encouraged to participate in these programs, which include a diverse array of activities in the areas of art, education, sports, health and wellness, leadership, and career readiness.
