City of Cleveland Announces Traffic Information for Cleveland Guardians Home Opener

Wednesday, Mar 25, 2026

CLEVELAND – The City of Cleveland and the Cleveland Division of Police have released important traffic
information in anticipation of the Cleveland Guardians' home opener at Progressive Field on Friday,
April 3, 2026, at 4:10 p.m. Large crowds are expected, and as such, road closures and parking
restrictions will be in effect. Please note that all information is subject to change based on real-time
traffic and pedestrian conditions. The Cleveland Division of Police Bureau of Traffic may adjust road
closures and parking restrictions as needed to ensure public safety.

As always, your safety is a priority, and we ask all attendees to exercise caution and stay aware of their
surroundings. If you see something suspicious, please say something. For emergencies, call 911. For
non-emergency issues, contact the Cleveland Division of Police at (216) 621-1234.

Fans are encouraged to use public transit to ease congestion.

Road Closures and Traffic
Expect heavy traffic in the downtown area as fans arrive for the game. To help manage the volume of
traffic, the Division of Police will deploy additional officers along key routes. In preparation for the
game, several roads near Progressive Field may be temporarily closed or restricted as needed. Officers
and Traffic Controllers will be redirecting traffic as circumstances dictate.

Parking Rates & Restrictions
Parking restrictions will be in effect beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, and will continue
through midnight.

Always check nearby poles, posts, and parking meters for signage outlining parking restrictions, as
these may change based on traffic conditions. Vehicles found in violation of these restrictions will be
ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Towed vehicles can be retrieved from the City of
Cleveland’s Impound Unit at 3040 Quigley Road.

The following streets will have no-parking restrictions in place:

  • East 9th Street: Euclid Avenue to Bolivar Road
  • East 4th Street: From Huron Road to Prospect Avenue
  • East 2nd Street: From High Street to Prospect Avenue
  • Prospect Avenue: From Ontario Street to East 14th Street
  • Bolivar Road: From East 7th Street to Prospect Avenue
  • Huron Road: From East 9th Street to Ontario Street
  • Sumner Avenue: From East 9th Street to East 14th Street
  • Erie Court: From East 9th Street to East 14th Street

City council approved legislation in September 2023 that authorized new parking rates up to $8 per
hour in the Downtown area. After that was passed, the City announced changes to its parking system
and that new rates would be forthcoming. Downtown Special Events Zones will begin tomorrow –
Thursday, March 26 – and will only be in effect for games, concerts, and other special events moving
forward. On-street parking will be $8/hour in these zones and are only temporary in nature – as they will start two hours before events and remain in effect through the conclusion of the event, or until
10pm, whichever comes first. These zones only include a limited number of streets and are significantly
cheaper than event rates at any privately-owned parking lot/garage in the city. The updated rates will
be reflected on ParkMobile, and users can pay in the app, online, or by phone via text/call.

Upcoming sporting events where the Gateway Special Event Zone will be activated include this
weekend’s Cavs/Monsters games and the Guardian’s Home Opener next Friday. Visitors are encouraged
to plan ahead prior to arriving downtown for a better, easier parking experience. The Special Event
Parking Map, along with additional street parking information, can be found on the City’s website at
clevelandohio.gov/streetparking.
