Creating a complete and green street

East 66th Street

East 66th Street

Project Overview

We worked with community members and local partners to design a safer East 66th Street, including a shared use path. The project will begin construction in 2027.

Why E. 66th?

Between League Park, anchor institutions, unique businesses, and longtime residents, E. 66th has and continues to be a notable Cleveland street.

E. 66th is also an important link in the city’s expanding bike network. The shared-use path on East 66th Street will connect to separated bike lanes on Wade Park Avenue, the Superior Midway, bike lanes on East 55th Street, the lakefront, and other destinations. You can learn more about our bikeway vision network on our Cleveland Moves webpage.

Project Goals

Through this project, we aim to accomplish the following:

  • Road Diet: Narrow the street to enhance safety for all users.
  • Shared Use Path: Add a shared use path on the west side of the corridor for bikes and pedestrians.
  • Sidewalk Improvements: Replace deteriorated sidewalks for full accessibility.
  • Enhanced Crosswalks & Curb Extensions: Improve crosswalks and shortening crossing distances.
  • Pavement Markings & Signal Improvements: Formalize on-street parking lanes and install pedestrian crossing signals.
  • Street Greening: Plant new trees and adding green infrastructure.
  • Pedestrian-Scale Lighting & Public Art: Install lighting and public art to enhance safety and vibrancy.

Final Design

Final Design: The image below illustrates the current design concept for most of E 66th Street. This includes maintaining a single drive lane in each direction and introducing a shared-use neighborhood path while maintaining street parking. In some areas along the corridor, this path will be reduced to 6 ft. to accommodate and maintain existing trees on the street.

Project Updates

We held a stakeholder meeting on March 19, 2025 to give a project update to project partners. We held an open house at League Park on June 16, 2025 to share an update on the project with neighbors.

We worked with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) and MidTown Cleveland to develop a Transformation for Livable Communities (TLCI) Plan for East 66th Street. We worked with community members to understand the needs of the neighborhood. You can review the meeting schedule, materials, recordings, and the final plan below.
