Meade, Frank (architect)
Biography
Frank B. Meade was born in Norwalk, Ohio and educated in the Cleveland public schools, graduating from Central High School. He graduated from Wesleyan College and Boston Tech (later known as Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 1888. He spent four years in Chicago working for the firm of Jenney and Mundie before returning to Cleveland in 1893 where he worked in the offices of Charles Schweinfurth and George H. Smith. He opened an office in 1895. From 1896-7 he was in partnership with Alfred Hoyt Granger; from 1898 to 1905 he was in partnership with Abram Garfield; and from 1911 to 1941 his was associated with James M. Hamilton. Throughout his career, no matter the makeup of the firm, he was known as the architect of some of the city's finest residential projects built in the early 20th century, including numerous residences in the Euclid Heights development and Shaker Heights. He was known for the English domestic style of architecture. He designed houses for wealthy patrons throughout his career. He also designed several clubhouses and commercial buildings. He was appointed a member of the Cleveland Group Plan Commission after the death of Daniel Burnham.

Biography
In 1898 Frank Meade became a partner with Abram Garfield (1872-1958). The twenty-six year old Abram Garfield was the youngest son of President James A. Garfield. The firm designed numerous houses throughout Cleveland and its eastern suburbs. This partnership lasted until 1905 when Garfield went into business for himself.

Biography
William Mead was in Cleveland a relatively short time. In 1910 he worked for the Moore Engineering Company. In 1911 he was listed in the City Directory as an architect with offices in the Rose Building. He was the architect of the Lakewood Tennis Club.

McGeorge, Ernest (architect)
Biography
Ernest McGeorge was an engineer who mainly designed industrial buildings. He was born in England, came to the United States with his family in 1883, was naturalized as an American citizen in 1884, and settled in Cleveland in 1896. He was educated in Cleveland Public Schools. He worked at Wellman-Seaver-Morgan Company for nine years, where his father was a consulting engineer. He later worked for the Peerless Motor Car Company and the Ferro Machine and Foundry Company. As an engineer in the office of J. Milton Dyer he supervised the construction of the new heating system for the tuberculosis hospital on the Cooley Farm in Warrensville, Ohio. He opened an office in 1913. He specialized in the design, construction and supervision of manufacturing plants, warehouses, and commercial buildings. His principal clients were the Peerless Motor Car Company, the Ferro Machine and Foundry Company, the Parrish & Bingham Company, the Winton Engine Works, the Chandler Motor Car Company, the H.J. Walker Company, the Briggs Manufacturing Company, the Elyria Iron & Steel Company, and the Cleveland Switchboard. He was a member of Hough Congregational Church. He was a contributing member of the Ohio National Guard, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Cleveland Engineering Society, and the Cleveland Athletic Club.

McCornack, Walter (architect)
Biography
Walter McCornack was born in Oneida, Illinois. He attended Knox College and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1903. He worked in the office of Edmund M. Wheelwright in Boston from 1909 to 1913. He succeeded Frank S. Barnum as the architect for the Cleveland Board of Education from 1914 to 1925, an era of substantial growth for the Cleveland Public Schools. In early 1925 he joined Franz C. Warner as a firm (Warner & McCornack) until George Evans Mitchell was added as a partner in March 1928 (Warner, McCornack & Mitchell). He left the firm later that year. During the Hoover administration he was appointed Chair of the Chamber of Commerce committee on blighted districts and slum clearance. He was the architect of the Cedar - Central Homes in 1937 (becoming known as a pioneer in slum clearance), one of the first three public housing projects in the nation. He returned to Boston in 1939 to become dean of the School of Architecture and Regional and City Planning at MIT. He retired in 1945. He died in Littleton, New Hampshire.

Maurer, Herman (architect)
Biography
Herman Maurer was born in Cleveland. He was one of nine children of German born parents. Graduated from Case School of Applied Science in 1907. Was employed as a chemist for the Wabash Portland Cement Company in Stroh, Indiana (1907-8); Draftsman with Corrigan & McKinney Steel Company in Cleveland (1908-9); In the firm of Maurer & Mills (1909-15); and individual practice after 1915. Inventor of the Cur-te-tion (double accordion folding walls used in churches and schools). In 1942 he worked for the A. G. Makee Company. He lived at 3126 Scarborough Road in Cleveland Heights. He died at the age of ninety-nine in St. Luke's Hospital.
