City of Cleveland Extends Cooling Center Operations in Anticipation of High Temperatures

July 23, 2025 — Cleveland — The City of Cleveland, Department of Public Works will extend the hours of several recreation centers to serve as cooling centers for Cleveland residents that are seeking shelter from the warm temperatures expected in the coming days.


Dates of service: 

  • Thursday, July 24, 2025
  • Friday, July 25, 2025


Time: 

  • 11:30a.m. – 10:00p.m.


Locations: 

  • Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 3155 Martin L. King Blvd.  
  • Collinwood Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16300 Lakeshore Blvd.   
  • Gunning Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 16700 Puritas Ave.   
  • Kovacic Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6250 St. Clair Ave.   
  • Michael Zone Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 6301 Lorain Ave.   
  • Frederick Douglass Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center: 15401 Miles Ave.   


Each site will have comfort areas for residents and filtered water fountains.
 

Additional Information: 

  • All recreation centers will serve lunch meals to youth 18 and under from 12:00p.m. – 1:00p.m. Monday through Friday.  
  • All available spray parks / basins will be in operation any day of the week when the temperature is 80 degrees or higher.
  • Playground programs and youth outdoor sports (Baseball, softball and other field / court games) are cancelled.
  • All available outdoor pools are open Wednesday through Sunday, from 12:00p.m. – 7:30p.m.  
  • Select indoor pools are available from 12:00p.m. – 7:30p.m. as scheduled:
    • Monday and Tuesday: Collinwood, Cudell, Earle B. Turner, Estabrook, Fairfax, Frederick Douglass, Hamilton, Kovacic, Michael Zone, Stella Walsh, Gunning, and Thurgood Marshall.
    • Wednesdays: Collinwood, Thurgood Marshall, Michael Zone, Kovacic, Stella Walsh.
    • Thursdays: Cudell, Fairfax, Hamilton.
    • Fridays: Estabrook, Earle B. Turner, Frederick Douglass, Gunning.

Admission to all City pools and access to the full range of the City’s Summer Programming is completely free. Residents are encouraged to participate in these programs, which include a diverse array of activities in the areas of art, education, sports, health and wellness, leadership, and career readiness.
