Youth Congress
Cleveland’s youth are creating real change.
The City of Cleveland Youth Congress is a youth voice and leadership initiative connected to the City of Cleveland’s Municipal Cabinet for Children and Youth.
Youth Congress creates space for young people to share ideas, build leadership skills and engage with City leaders on issues affecting youth, schools, neighborhoods and community life.
Through this work, young Cleveland residents help the City better understand what youth need and what matters most in their communities.
Why Youth Congress?
Youth Congress gives young people the opportunity to use their voice, connect with City leaders and help shape conversations about Cleveland’s future.
Participants will learn more about local government, discuss community priorities and work alongside other young leaders who are committed to making positive change in Cleveland.
Youth Congress members will have the opportunity to:
- Share ideas on issues that matter to Cleveland youth
- Build leadership, advocacy and civic engagement skills
- Engage with City of Cleveland leaders and professionals
- Learn more about how local government works
- Connect with other young leaders across Cleveland
Program Overview
Purpose:
Youth Congress provides young people with opportunities to share their experiences, identify community needs and engage with City leaders on issues that impact youth, families and neighborhoods.
Connection to the Municipal Cabinet for Children and Youth:
The Youth Congress supports the Cabinet’s commitment to improving outcomes for children and youth by centering youth voice, strengthening engagement and helping turn ideas into action.
What the Youth Congress Does
Youth Congress members help create a stronger connection between young people and City government.
The program:
- Holds monthly meetings focused on youth needs
- Engages youth with City of Cleveland leaders and professionals
- Creates space for youth to discuss community priorities
- Builds leadership, advocacy and civic engagement skills
- Offers monthly stipends as compensation for participants’ time
Program Eligibility
Youth Congress is open to young people who are interested in leadership, community engagement and creating positive change in Cleveland.
Eligible participants should be:
- Cleveland residents
- Between the ages of 14 and 24
- Active in their community
- Committed to making change
