Overview

In 2024, the City of Cleveland Division of Urban Forestry received a $3.4 million grant from the USDA Forest Service to support long-term investment in Cleveland’s urban tree canopy. The grant supports tree planting, tree maintenance, public tree inventory work, staff training, community investment, and regional partnerships from 2024 through 2029.

Purpose

Cleveland’s urban forest is critical public infrastructure. Trees provide shade, reduce heat, improve air quality, absorb stormwater, support wildlife, and improve neighborhood quality of life. However, maintaining and growing the urban tree canopy requires sustained investment, accurate data, trained staff, and strong partnerships.

The Cleveland Tree Canopy Revitalization Grant is intended to strengthen the City’s ability to care for public trees while supporting new planting and maintenance efforts across Cleveland and Cuyahoga County.
