Mums thrive in cooler fall temperatures and need at least six hours of full sun each day. Keep them well watered, especially in containers, where soil can dry out quickly. Water at the base of the plant or use bottom watering to avoid wetting the flowers.

When shopping for fall mums, choose plants with plenty of unopened buds rather than those already in full bloom. This will help you enjoy their colorful display longer.
