Week Without Driving: September 29 – October 5, 2025

Monday, Sep 29, 2025

From Monday, September 29 to Sunday, October 5, the City of Cleveland is joining communities across the country in observing National Week Without Driving. This initiative challenges all of us to consider how we get around — and how transportation systems can better support everyone.

For nearly a quarter of Cleveland residents — including people with disabilities, youth, older adults, and those who can’t afford a car or gas — not driving is part of daily life. This week is a chance to reflect on that experience and explore alternatives to driving alone.

How the Challenge Works
The goal is simple: don’t drive yourself in any car for the week.

  • Try to take every trip — whether it's commuting, errands, or social outings — without driving yourself.
  • It’s okay to ask for rides but consider the cost in time and money for the person giving you a lift.
  • If you do need to drive, take a moment to reflect: How would you make that trip if you didn’t have the option to drive?

Ways to Get Around Without Driving
Cleveland offers a variety of non-driving transportation options:

  • RTA Rapid Transit and Bus Lines – Including the Red, Blue, Green, and Waterfront lines, plus citywide bus routes.
Shared E-scooters and E-bikes – Bird and Veo operate across the city with convenient rentals.
    • Veo is offering a special discount: Use code CARFREE25 for $5 in ride credit!
    • Bird is offering a free 15-minute trip for new users with code CLEWWD2025!
  • Walking and Rolling – Many neighborhoods are served by sidewalks and multi-use trails.
  • Cleveland Water Taxi – A fun and scenic way to access the waterfront.
