Stokes Boulevard Resurfacing Project (Chester Avenue to Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive)
The purpose of this presentation is to provide information and an opportunity to discuss design features and plans for the upcoming project on Stokes Boulevard.
Timeline:
- Design completion: Winter 2026
- Construction begins: Spring/Summer 2027
- Construction complete: Summer 2028
Project Need: We're making changes to Stokes Boulevard to address traffic safety concerns, improve the condition of the roadway, and strengthen connections in our growing citywide bike network.
Proposed Changes:
- Complete asphalt resurfacing
- Upgrade non-compliant curb ramps to meet accessibility standards
- Replace curbs, sidewalks, and driveway aprons as needed
- Road diet, reducing the number of travel lanes from four lanes to two lanes
- Explore adding pedestrian safety enhancements, such as new or improved
crosswalks or signal improvements in key locations - Investigate adding a new bikeway connection
