Building Brighter Futures

The Cleveland Board of Education adopted the Building Brighter Futures (BBF) recommendations on December 9, 2025.

Building Brighter Futures is a strategic and data-driven plan shaped by months of community engagement, information analysis, and thoughtful deliberation. The goal of this plan is to strengthen enrollment and ensure scholars attend a newer school building that offers more educational opportunities, including algebra in the eighth grade, more sports and extracurricular activities, and college credits and college and career pathways in high school. BBF is ensuring academic excellence so every CMSD scholar can thrive. Building Brighter Futures - Cleveland Metropolitan School District

What happens now?

Current K–7 and 9–11 scholars at transitioning schools have a reserved seat at their paired welcoming school, but families must confirm this seat in the School Choice Portal from January 5 to February 27, 2026. Families exploring other options should know that students transitioning or moving to a new school receive first priority—based on availability—at all eligible schools if they submit a School Choice application during this same window. All current 8th graders across CMSD will continue to receive support in making their high school choice through the School Choice process.

Building Brighter Futures School Lookup Tool

The City has launched a new Building Brighter Futures School Lookup Tool, designed to help staff and residents easily visualize CMSD’s proposed school consolidation plan. The tool allows users to type in an address or school name and instantly see how proposed changes may affect school assignments and neighborhood pathways.

This resource makes the plan clearer, more transparent, and more accessible for families and community partners as conversations continue citywide. We encourage all staff to explore the tool and share it with residents who may have questions about the plan.
