Civil Service Inquiries

The Appeal must be submitted to the Commission in accordance with the process and procedures of the Rule associated with the Appeal subject. (Termination, Suspension, etc...)

Civil Service Rules

Submit a formal email or letter to The Office of the Civil Service explaining your reason for the Appeal. Please include a copy of relevant documents related to the matter you are appealing.  The email or letter must include your name, address, phone number and email address.

It can be mailed to the Civil Service Commission, 601 Lakeside Ave Rm. 19, Cleveland Ohio 44114 or emailed to CS@clevelandohio.gov.

Once your formal email or letter has been received, the Executive Director of Civil Service will review, and you will be notified of the next steps.

The process can take thirty (30) days. Our office communicates primarily via email.  Your patience

Formal Letter Sample

The request for reinstatement must be submitted in accordance with the process and procedures of 
Civil Service Rule(s) 8.41 Non-Police and Fire Members or 8.42 Police and Fire Members.

Submit a formal email or letter to The Office of the Civil Service explaining your reason for the request and an explanation of why you did not apply during the application period.  The email or letter must include your name, address, phone number and email address.

It can be mailed to the Civil Service Commission, 601 Lakeside Ave Rm. 19, Cleveland Ohio 44114 or emailed to CS@clevelandohio.gov.

Once your formal email or letter has been received, the Executive Director of Civil Service will make a determination regarding the processing of your request, including your possible appearance before the Commission at a future Commission Meeting.
