Slovenian Statehood Day

Slovenian heritage and legacy contributes to the cultural diversity of Cleveland. Recently, Mayor Frank G. Jackson gave brief remarks at this year’s annual Slovenian Statehood Day Celebration held in the Rotunda of Cleveland City Hall.

Slovenian statehood and its efforts for sovereignty have roots dating back centuries. Slovenia has a rich culture of independence and democracy, which gave rise to strong political movements of civil society, and eventually a sovereign Slovenia. Slovenia is now a model for its brothers and sisters in the region.

Representatives from various Slovenian organizations including international, business and educational communities in Cleveland have united with the Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia, the sole foreign diplomatic office in the State of Ohio, to celebrate Slovenia’s 24th birthday.
