Director of Law

Barbara Langhenry has represented the City of Cleveland as a lawyer in the Law Department since 1990. She started in the Real Estate and Development Section, and then served as Chief of the Code Enforcement Section from 1994 to 1998 and Chief of the Contracts, Legislation, and Municipal Law Section from 1998 to 2006.

She was the Chief Counsel from 2006 through the fall of 2011 when she was named Law Director.

Prior to working for the City, Langhenry worked in private practice as a litigator. Langhenry earned her law degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1987 and an A.B. in Government and Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. She moved from Chicago to the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland after college and taught fifth grade in the Glenville neighborhood. She then worked as a community organizer in Tremont with Merrick House and the Tremont West Development Corporation. She continues to live in Ohio City with her husband Rick Werner and their two daughters.
