CLEVELAND – The City of Cleveland is preparing for the energy and excitement that will soon be upon downtown Cleveland from a variety of events this week including the beginning of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, Cleveland Indians home game, concerts at Quicken Loans Arena, major motion picture filming and more.

This week, the Cleveland Cavaliers continue their playoff run as they begin the NBA Eastern Conference Finals series against the Toronto Raptors. Game 1 of the series is set to begin on Tuesday, May 17 at Quicken Loans Arena, 8:30 pm ET and Game 2 on Thursday, May 19 at Quicken Loans Arena, 8:30 pm ET, the City of Cleveland would like to remind visitors and all those in the downtown area of the following parking restrictions that will be in place for both games:

  • Huron Road – from Ontario Street to Prospect Avenue
  • Prospect Avenue – from Ontario Street To East 14th Street
  • East 9th Street – from Euclid Avenue to Bolivar Road
  • East 4th Street – from Prospect Avenue to Huron Road
  • East 2nd Street – from Prospect Avenue to High Street

Additionally on Tuesday, May 17, the Cleveland Indians host the Cincinnati Reds at 6:10 pm at Progressive Field. The combination of both games on the same day will result in an increase in pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Use caution when traveling downtown and allow yourself extra travel time.

On Wednesday, May 18, a major motion picture will begin filming in downtown Cleveland that will require a few intermittent and permanent road closures. You may view those road closures here. Also on Wednesday, the Quicken Loans Arena will host Carrie Underwood at 7:00 pm. The same parking restrictions will be in place for this concert.

The City of Cleveland and Division of Police offer the following tips to make your trip to Cleveland stress-free.

Arrive early. In order to ensure that you arrive at your destination without missing a second of the action, plan your commute beforehand and allow yourself extra travel time.

Ride RTA. The RTA Rapid is your best transportation to each of these events Downtown. Park for free, buy a $5 All-Day Pass, and leave the rest to us. No driving hassles, no expensive downtown parking. Visit to plan your trip.

Put Your Junk in Your Trunk! Valuable items should not be left in the interior of a vehicle where others can see them. Even better is to place these items in the trunk prior to arriving at your destination.

Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic in the downtown area.

If you see something suspicious, say something. Report any suspicious activity to safety officials.

The Bureau of Traffic will supplement their customary allotment of traffic enforcement officers with additional police officers and traffic controllers to facilitate traffic into and out of downtown and to assist with pedestrian traffic. Numerous officers will be detailed to the area during the event for added security and crowd control.

The Ohio Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to plan ahead as road & bridge improvement projects take place around the City of Cleveland. Roadways including the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway and Interstate 90 “Inner-belt” are under construction. Motorists are encouraged to follow all posted signage and allow for extra travel time to reach, and depart, Downtown venues. Be sure to “Know Before You Go” and visit for up-to-the-minute information, including LIVE traffic speeds and cameras approaching Downtown Cleveland.
