Cleveland/Cuyahoga Workforce Investment Board Wins U.S. Labor Department $2.1 million - Job Training Grant

Grant to help displaced workers with job training and placement

CLEVELAND –The City of Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Workforce Investment Board announced that it has won a competitive sector partnership grant in the amount of $2,075,396.43 from the U.S. Department of Labor via the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services (ODJFS). The grant will provide training and employment to dislocated workers in Northeast Ohio based on the skills businesses need for in-demand jobs in three key industries: healthcare, manufacturing and information technology.

In addition, a new initiative called Talent NEO will be leveraged to incorporate a skills-based assessment within the provided job training. This initiative is coordinated by Towards Employment, a Cleveland area non-profit dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through employment, in order to combine skills-based assessments with training to improve job placement.

Project leader OhioMeansJobs|Cleveland-Cuyahoga County has partnered with the following organizations to connect businesses and workers with the goal of employment after completion of job training:

• Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network (MAGNET) –manufacturing
• Regional Information Technology Engagement (RITE) Board - information technology
• NewBridge - healthcare in collaboration with major area hospitals
• Training for jobs in Welding, CNC Machining, Patient Care Technician and several technology occupations are also available.

• 11699 Brookpark Rd, Parma, OH 44130. 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
• Neighborhood Family Service Center at 5398 1/2 Northfield Road Maple Heights, Ohio 44137 on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
