Wednesday, December 16, 2015

CLEVELAND – Today, Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced that the FY 2016 Omnibus Appropriations Bill includes $100 million in security grant funding for the 2016 Republican National Convention (RNC) in the City of Cleveland and the 2016 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in the City of Philadelphia. Mayor Jackson and Mayor Nutter offered the following remarks on today’s announcement:

“On behalf of the cities of Cleveland and Philadelphia, Mayor Nutter and I would like to thank members of the House and Senate leadership as well as the Appropriations Committee leadership and all key congressional staff members involved in helping our cities secure the NSSE Grant, which is critical for planning both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. Their bipartisan efforts have helped to secure the funding necessary to provide safe Conventions in both of our cities.

The cities of Cleveland and Philadelphia would like to extend a special thank you to Ohio Delegation Members: Senator Rob Portman, Senator Sherrod Brown, Congressman David Joyce, Congressman Jim Renacci, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and the Pennsylvania Delegation of Congressmen Bob Brady, Chaka Fattah, Brenden Boyle and Senators Robert Casey and Pat Toomey for their support and dedicated hard work in helping to navigate this process. Their leadership has been critically important and this could not have happened without their direct involvement.

We would also like to thank the Cleveland team who worked relentlessly on this: Valarie J. McCall, Host Committee Member, City Lead for RNC Planning and Chief of Government and International Affairs and their DC team, Linda Daschle and Paul Doerrer. Philadelphia team members: Everett Gillison, Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety; Desiree Peterkin Bell, Director of Communications and Strategic Partnerships and City Representative and Lauren Walker, Third Deputy Chief of Staff.

Finally we would like to thank the 2016 Cleveland Host Committee, Jeff Larson and Steve King of the Republican National Convention Committee on Arrangements, the Philadelphia Host Committee, and the Democratic National Convention leadership team.

We look forward to hosting the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.”
