Independent Monitor
Recently at Cleveland City Hall in a Red Room event, Mayor Frank G. Jackson and U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach announced the selection of an Independent Monitor to assess and report on the progress of the City of Cleveland and Department of Justice settlement agreement. Mayor Jackson welcomed Mr. Matthew Barge, Vice President and Deputy Director, Police Assessment Resource Center and his assembled team of professionals as Cleveland’s Independent Monitor.
The head of its New York City office, Mr. Barge has directed numerous, major monitoring and independent assessments of law enforcement organizations nationwide. Since 2013, he has served as Deputy Director to the Monitor of a Department of Justice consent decree in Seattle that addresses use of force and discriminatory policing issues, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the court-appointed monitoring team.
