African American Garden
Mayor Frank G. Jackson was joined by various community partners at the groundbreaking for the construction of Phase I of the African American Cultural Garden (AACG) at a ground breaking ceremony held at the African American Cultural Garden on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
After 38 years, and because of vigorous fundraising and contributions, the African American Cultural Garden land that was dedicated in 1977 will become a reality. The African American Cultural Garden is a tribute to the history, culture, artistry and enduring strength of people of African and American heritage throughout Greater Cleveland, the United States and the African Diaspora.
Phase 1 of the project will feature polished black granite retaining walls, reflective sandstone/limestone, and cascading water. The garden was designed by architect W. Daniel Bickerstaff II.
