Building Healthy Families

Titled, Building Healthy Families Creates Strong Communities, Mayor Frank G. Jackson gave brief remarks at the Domestic Violence and Mental Health Conference and Workshops held in the Rammelkamp Atrium of the MetroHealth Hospital Main Campus in Cleveland.

This free event was open to the public and served as a safe place for families, community leaders, and domestic violence and mental health specialist to learn about and discuss the issues of domestic violence in Cleveland’s community, cultural barriers which limits a person’s ability to get help, legal rights, available resources and how mental illness affects decision making in both physical and mental abuse.

In addition, the conference highlighted specific challenges faced by immigrants related to their cultural stigmas, interpretation needs and lack of knowledge of their legal rights. The title, Building Healthy Families Creates Strong Communities, was used to emphasize a positive message for working together to help families live productive and violence free lives in a safe community. The workshop also covered family violence prevention, mental health concerns, faith and spirituality.
