2015 Budget Estimate
Mayor Frank Jackson briefed city managers and leaders at 9 a.m. on the budget estimate for 2015. Prior to this briefing in Public Auditorium the budget estimate was hand delivered to the City Council at 8 a.m. as is required by law. Also required by law is for the City to submit a balanced budget estimate to City Council by 1 February each year. This year the City submitted it on Friday, January 30th as February 1st falls on a Sunday.
Through his brief to the staff managers and leaders as well as his briefing to the media at 10:30 a.m. this morning, the Mayor emphasized three aspects of the budget:
- it must be a balanced budget,
- because the city is not profit based but rather service based and our service delivery is based on revenues, and
- the employee impact for this year and the goal for the mayor every year is to structure the budget in such a way as to not cut or lay off any employees due to budget shortfalls.
