Black History Month Flag Raising
The City of Cleveland’s 46th Annual Black History Month Flag Raising ceremony was held on Feb.1. The ceremony kicked off the City’s Black History Month festivities, and was hosted by the Department of Community Relations, the Underground Railroad, the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), Republic of New Africa (RNA), and African American Cultural Gardens.
This year also marked the 100th Anniversary of the Red, Black and Green Flag and UNIA. In addition to honoring prestigious guests from the Republic of Ghana, the ceremony featured remarks from Dr. Eugene Jordan of the Underground Railroad Society and Amir Khalid A. Samad of the Coalition for a Better Life, among others. Performances from Voices in the Valley, Ras Matunji, and the Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word were also featured.
