Q1249
There was a fire at my house. I'm allowed back in but how do I even begin trying to clean up?

You may need a fire restoration company, which you can find online or in the phone book. Here are some safety precautions:

  • Do NOT turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet
  • Change the heater filter
  • If it is winter and the heat is off, pour antifreeze in toilets and drains to prevent freezing
  • If your power is off, empty fridge/freezer and keep doors open
  • Throw away canned or packaged food and beverages that were close to the fire, they may be contaminated
