Something Fun for Everyone!
Seasonal activities at City of Cleveland Recreation Centers include organized sports, playground activities, performance arts, ice skating, camping, and more. Activities are designed for participants from the very young to Seniors. Detailed information is available on the tabs below.

Education and Career
Prep now for the fall 2022 exams! Master skills and strategies to improve your ACT score and enhance your college application.
This Back to School Special program will be conducted August 1 – August 19 to help students prepare to go back to school. Participants are grouped into two sections: Grades 1-4 and Grades 5-10.
Tri-C ASPIRE provides high-quality adult education to individuals who need to prepare for the GED examination or who want to learn or improve their English speaking skills. Students 16 and 17 must be officially withdrawn from high school for GED eligibility.
College Now, in partnership with the City of Cleveland, supports student growth and development through the College & Career Exploration program. The College & Career Exploration program focuses on helping increase students’ awareness of the college going process and the opportunities available to them, so that they can create their best-fit post-secondary plans.
This program is available to students in grades 6 - 12 grade and will be offered for 5 weeks. The College Now Instructors facilitate each student’s college & career research and exploration to ensure strategic and tactile postsecondary access and financial planning; instructors also provide both ACT and SAT General Overviews and Strategy Overviews as well as registration assistance for those who request it. The sessions are facilitated two times per week, giving students the opportunity to engage, ask questions, and map out future potential opportunities.
Each day, food and drink is provided to all participants, usually pizza! Students who attend the program are eligible to attend an all-expense-paid College Now College & Career Exposure trip.

Interested in learning how to start a business? From ideation to implementation, participants ages 13-17 go through the process of creating a product and promoting their concept during Young Entrepreneur Pop Up Shop!
In this one-week program, K-8 participants will engage in multiple hands-on activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Activities are designed to encourage creativity and self-efficacy. Rotating family pass is available at each NRRC.
This program will introduce youth in grades 5 – 8 to engineering concepts focused on math, science and literacy through project based learning activities. Youth will form teams that will compete with the projects they have completed.
This engaging, effective, and efficient support program for youth in ages 6 - 12 is designed to help students catch up, keep up or get ahead. The program utilizes research-based methodologies that have been proven effective in addressing the needs of students who are struggling academically.
Middle grade students assess the needs of their community with asset mapping to identify, design and plan three community service projects that benefit the local community. Youth earn a weekly stipend based upon the hours of their participation. The $10 an hour stipend is paid weekly for up to 12 hours a week.
Cleveland Youth in grades K-12 will receive individual tutoring virtually incorporating FUN Activity-based learning addressing their individual academic needs. Reach Success will work with the parent/guardian of the participant to coordinate schedules and share academic progress. Tutors will create individual methods of learning based on learning styles, and also provide curriculum if needed. The sessions will be 1-2 hours a week based on needs/schedules.
During this 3-week program, youth will engage in hands-on, on-site workshops in which they will explore their neighborhoods, identify and design physical improvements to parks and public spaces and construct these improvements onsite as temporary or permanent installations. Participating youth will receive design, construction and safety training, as well as a stipend for their participation in this effort.
Fun and Games
Youth will learn and play the game of soccer, while at the same time engaging in activities that will strengthen their writing and speaking skills. Participants will complete a service-learning project.
Participants of all ages will participate in chess instruction and then move to competitive chess play.

Recess coordinators will lead youth ages 8+ in a series of games that observe social distancing guidelines. Youth will play bubble soccer, giant soccer, Captain Cleveland, and other games.
Life Enhancement
Get in shape by participating in one of the most efficient beneficial forms of exercise, powered by Fit Circuit. Adult participants will be instructed through 8-10 different exercise stations which will work various muscle groups, completing 4 circuits in each training session.
Join the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes as we explore the living things right outside your local recreation center. We'll use tools like magnifying glasses and binoculars to discover what plants, birds, and animals call Cleveland home. This 10 session program will be a mix of observing nature outdoors and completing indoor challenges like creating your own bird feeder or designing a new kind of seed. Bring your curiosity and sense of adventure because in the Exploring Nature program, YOU become the expert on nature in your community. Grades 4 - 6
This introductory program will provide youth in grade 6-12 basic instruction in photography. Participants will learn basic camera operation, lighting and special techniques. Returning participants will go in depth with more advanced techniques and alternative processes for photography.
Participants will prepare healthy meals, learn about cleanliness in the kitchen and develop specific cooking skills.
Youth in grades K – 5 will experience fun, educational, hands-on activities that teach the biology of plants and the importance of plants to personal health and the health of our communities. Youth will participate in two field trips and will plant a tree in a local location.
Older adults (55+) who would like to reduce social isolation and better understand the growing tech and digital device world are encouraged to enroll in this exciting class. Adults will learn to connect with an array of content that includes health related topics, education, cultural experiences, exercise, music and games.
Performing and Fine Arts
Multi-media Arts Workshop - each week we will be exploring a different art material, ceramics, paintings, upcycling, stenciling, t-shirt design, and jewelry making are some of the projects scheduled for this workshop!
Join Art House as a professional artist works with youth of all ages to create artworks of various media while learning about different cultural traditions from around the world. Project examples may include collage, mask making/decorating, photography and/or sculptie clay. Explore the visual arts this summer!
Do you love music? Have you ever put new words to your favorite songs? Have you ever produced a beat to that song? Have you ever danced to that song? If so, this workshop is for you! The final step in your creative music project will be the Dance Jam, where you will come up with dance moves to match your beat’s style and character!
Fierce, fun and energized, this class blends jazz dance and various other popular dance styles! This all – levels and all-abilities class for youth ages 5 – 15 meets once per week for one hour. Dancing Wheels is equipped to support youth with cognitive and physical disabilities.
Our majorette dance classes explore high energy, Hip-Hop inspired dance moves combined with the athleticism of gymnastics and the technique of Jazz dance. Dancers are strongly advised to bring water and wear athletic, flexible clothing including tennis shoes.
The Recording Arts Technology Academy is designed to introduce youth in grades 6 - 10 to sound recording, music and the entertainment industry. Topics will include:

- Basic music skills
- Voice over talent
- Poetry
- Scripts
- Interview skills
Creative expression thrives as participants create their own superhero, write his storyline, illustrate their own superhero comics and create mini-magazines. A culminating event will showcase and celebrate participant’s work.

Education and Career
Youth in grades 10 – 12 will engage in intensive ACT/SAT test prep tutoring to better prepare them to meet the demands of college entrance and Ohio graduation requirements. This is a 10-week program.
This exciting program provides out-of- school time programs for 1st- 12th grade youth including academic assistance, sports and recreation, field trips, guest speakers, STEM focused hands-on activities and classes that broaden students’ individual interests. Participants are grouped into two sections: Grades 1-4 and Grades 5-10.

Are you exploring a college education? This virtual program takes on a hybrid form of self-paced exploration, instructor led sessions and independent support. Youth complete a module independently. Live virtual sessions provide more information on the topics addressed in the modules, ensuring that youth have the opportunity to ask the instructor questions as well as engage with other youth considering the college experience. Independent support will be provided through independent check-ins.

Bucket Drumming participants will learn fundamental techniques and comprehensive rhythms through call and response training. The program will culminate in a performance for friends, family and the Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center community.
Multi-media Arts Workshop - each week we will be exploring a different art material, ceramics, paintings, upcycling, stenciling, t-shirt design, and jewelry making are some of the projects scheduled for this workshop!
These Workshops celebrate the cultural diversity of Cleveland through the visual arts. Workshops are designed to educate participants about cultural traditions they may already know as well as those with which they may not know. These include the Day of the Dead, the Mexican tradition of celebrating ancestors, Dwali, the Indian festival of Light, the Chinese New Year and more. The goal of the series to promote cross-cultural understanding, tolerance. These workshop series would be designed for participants ranging from age 5 to adult. Both individual and group projects will be included in the series.
Youth ages 8 – 11 and adults with a serious interest in learning to play the violin will participate in an intensive series of violin lessons. These lessons will prepare them for the variety of public performances they will experience. Violins are provided for in-class use.

Youth in grades K – 12 will study and learn ballet. Classes will include ballet instruction, rehearsals and wellness workshops for healthy habits. The program also includes an exploration of the connection between classic literature and ballet.

Both individual and group projects will be included in the series.
Do you love music? Have you ever put new words to your favorite songs? Have you ever produced a beat to that song? Have you ever danced to that song? If so, this workshop is for you! The final step in your creative music project will be the Dance Jam, where you will come up with dance moves to match your beat’s style and character!
Fierce, fun and energized, this class blends jazz dance and various other popular dance styles! This all – levels and all-abilities class for youth ages 5 – 15 meets once per week for one hour. Dancing Wheels is equipped to support youth with cognitive and physical disabilities.
Our majorette dance classes explore high energy, Hip-Hop inspired dance moves combined with the athleticism of gymnastics and the technique of Jazz dance. Dancers are strongly advised to bring water and wear athletic, flexible clothing including tennis shoes. Ages 7 to 12.
Do you love music and want to learn to play a musical instrument? Choose from violin, guitar, percussion or trumpet. Instruments are provided and musicians who complete the seasonal session get to keep their instrument! A band will be formed with musicians completing lessons.

Youth in grades K – 12 will study and learn ballet. Classes will include ballet instruction, rehearsals and wellness workshops for healthy habits. The program also includes an exploration of the connection between classic literature and ballet.
Creative expression thrives as participants create their own superhero, write his storyline, illustrate their own superhero comics and create mini-magazines. A culminating event will showcase and celebrate participant’s work.
