Smoke Detector Program

The Cleveland Division of Fire participates in the American Red Cross Operation Save-A-Life, which provides free smoke alarms, batteries, and installation. All elderly and low income Cleveland residents of Cleveland qualify for this no-cost program.


Arson Unit

Penalties are enforced for those who commit arson, and in Cleveland parents may be held liable for acts committed by their children. Those wanting to provide information about arson and those seeking investigation of suspected arson, are urged to call the Cleveland Fire Department Arson Unit. All calls are kept confidential, and rewards may apply for some information. 

CERT Classes

Clevelanders are learning vital skills to help themselves, their fellow workers and their neighbors. Trained through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, these residents are able to offer assistance in a disaster even before professional emergency crews arrive on the scene. 

CERT members are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in community emergency preparedness projects.  Attendees to this free program come from all walks of life, echoing the cultural, economical, and generational diversity of the city.  -more 


Terrorism Awareness and Prevention (TAP) Classes

Key to protecting the community from terrorists is awareness. In addition to knowing what a terrorist incident is, it is important to understand the types of activity which necessitate police involvement. TAP presentations are free and available for groups including factories and other businesses, schools, block clubs, and community organizations.
