Public Records Request Policy
Retention Schedule

This office, in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, defines records to include the following: any document – paper, electronic (including, but not limited to, email) or other format – that is created or received by, or comes under the jurisdiction of a public office that documents the organization, function, policies, decisions, procedures, operations, or other activities of the office. All records of the City of Cleveland are public unless they are exempt from disclosure under the ORC.

The Division of EMS provides copies of patient care records. The fee for this service is $5 per patient/per day.


Police Public Records Requests

Ohio Sunshine Laws

Records commonly requested include policies and procedures, accident and crime reports, budget data, 911 calls and crime statistics. In order for requests to be filled quickly and correctly, specific information is needed.

There may be a charge for making copies of records.

It is the policy of the Division of Police to adhere to the Public Records Act of the State of Ohio. The Division maintains many records that may be of interest which are available to the public (with few exceptions). This openness is meant to inspire faith in the police and to ensure that resources are used wisely and in the public interest.
