City of Cleveland Unveils Renovations at Mark Tromba Park

CLEVELAND – Mayor Frank G. Jackson along with Michael Cox, Director of Public Works and Councilman Michael Polensek (Ward 8) joined city dignitaries and residents on Sept. 21 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the renovation of Mark Tromba Park.

“Mark Tromba Park is a neighborhood park,” said Mayor Jackson. “This community owns this park emotionally and physically. It is good for the community.”

The $1.2 million renovation of the Collinwood neighborhood park includes a new splash pad, playgrounds with swings, two basketball courts and a tennis court. Visitors can also utilize new amenities including a drinking fountain, game tables, benches and waste receptacles. Other renovations consist of expanded parking to accommodate 26 vehicles, lighting, fencing repairs and the removal of tall perimeter fences to create a more welcoming environment.

In an effort to support the sustainable development of the city, the park now provides 33 percent more green space in the overall design. The park will also feature a public art sculpture by Cleveland artist Charlotte Lees, located at the confluence of the park’s walk ways.

About Mark Tromba

Mark Tromba was a first generation immigrant from Italy. At the age of six he came to America with his parents and family. After completing high school Mr. Tromba served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 and upon his return he settled in the Collinwood neighborhood working days at his job and volunteering his time with the Collinwood Booster Club and, in the evenings, helped start Cleveland’s Little League Baseball program.
